You can have your art and eat too. Stroll the streets of Wynwood and admire street art murals under the guidance of a Wynwood Art District area specialist, and when you work up an appetite, enjoy a mimosa and lunch at the one-of-a-kind Butcher Shop, a culinary destination in Wynwood, featured on Channel 7 (http://wsvn.com/entertainment/the-butcher-shop/).
What to Expect:
This is a walking tour, so wear comfortable shoes! Bringing a bottle of water, sunscreen, and a hat is also a good idea. For the first hour and a quarter of this tour, we will explore graffiti and street art in Wynwood. We will discuss the emergence of art in the area as well as its troubled past and current commercial development. We will pause at murals by artists that may include How and Nosm, the twin brothers from Europe whose life has revolved around street art for decades and who have pieces both inside Wynwood Walls and outside. We will look at many others, like Kenny Scharf and Vhils. Walls can change quickly and may be painted over from one week to the next, which in itself is a topic worthy of discussion. The tour guide is knowledgeable about the artists and their techniques and knows the stories behind individual walls and murals. If brunch is purchased, by 12:15, we will arrive at the Butcher Shop, a local watering hole, where we will be seated together and served a mimosa. Guests will select from the brunch menu, including choices like Challah French Toast, Chicken and Waffles, or Eggs Benedict. We will eat, drink and talk together about what we saw, about the food, and about other interesting places in Wynwood. The tour guide will be able to answer questions and offer recommendations for further exploration or future visits. (Additional drinks or food items may be ordered at additional cost.) *Specific gallery stops, artwork, and murals are subject to change as galleries update shows and hours, and murals are painted over.
