If the artist was invited to spray-paint a wall, can the work still be called graffiti? How did graffiti go from a criminal act of defiance to artwork inside galleries? On the Wynwood Art Walk Street Art Tour, we will ponder questions like these while browsing the ever-changing landscape of murals in Wynwood. But first we sip a complimentary adult (or non-alcoholic) beverage at the graffiti-covered Wood Tavern, a revered local institution.
This is a walking tour, so come in comfortable shoes. We apologize, but no guests under 21 will be able to join this tour. ID may be required.
Scheduled time — Find us at the outdoor bar, and we will order you a drink on our tab. Sip your drink in a casual atmosphere, surrounded by the greenery of the brick-paved outdoor patio.
After 30 minutes – the tour starts. With your tour guide, you will stroll down the streets of the heart of the Wynwood Art District. You will learn about the history of Wynwood, and as the group stops at some of the most interesting murals, you will learn about the genesis of street art, the contribution and technique of individual artists like Kashink and Os Gemeos, and the story of various murals. We guarantee that you will gain an appreciation and perspective of graffiti and specific murals that you did not anticipate. Don’t forget to bring your camera because a mural you see today may not be there next week. You can record art history in the making.
*Specific artwork and murals are subject to change as murals are painted over.
