Walking Tour of the Wynwood Walls. Wynwood Walls is the epicenter of the Wynwood Art District. Conceived by Tony Goldman and Jeffrey Dietch, it is a collection of curated murals by artists from around the world, on the walls of former warehouses which form a series of courtyards. Join us on a Wynwood Walls Tour to learn about this remarkable and unique space in the Wynwood Art District.
This is a walking tour, so it is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes though we are covering a short distance. As with all outdoor activity in South Florida, sunscreen and hat are also recommended.
Step through the wrought iron entrance gate to Wynwood Walls and listen to the story of how Wynwood rose from a neglected industrial/urban zone to Art District and the role of Tony Goldman in its development. Learn how the Walls (and Doors and Garden) are curated at Wynwood Walls and what their life span is. Then, strolling through the courtyards of the Wynwood Walls and Wynwood Doors, pause at several murals, like Shepard Fairey’s depicting Tony Goldman in an homage and Okuda’s serene mural with the paradoxical kaleidoscopic pattern. Take in the art, snap photos, and hear about who the artists are, what their place is in street art history, what techniques they use, and what messages and meanings may be behind their work. Ask questions and converse with your Guide and fellow group members about your impressions. The Wynwood Walls at times close for private events. If this is ever the case during this tour we will offer complimentary tickets to join the tour at another date, but the current tour will still happen visiting Wynwood Walls curated murals outside of the Wynwood Walls park.
