LEARN THE PRINCIPLES OF GRAFFITI WRITTING

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn some of the techniques used by graffiti artists whose bold, eye-popping lettering has been applied both illegally and legally on train cars, fences, firewalls, and now canvases in galleries. It is their rebellious spirit and creativity that laid the foundations of today’s street art culture. In this – completely legal – class, we explore essential skills, including letter structure, outlines, dimension, shading, highlights, and color application that underlie graffiti writing skills.

Led by a local graffiti artist, our workshop is taught in the heart of the Wynwood Art District where graffiti and mural art cover the walls of nearly every building, immersing and inspiring visitors in this dynamic, evolving art form. We learn about the process that large scale graffiti writers employ with spraypaint, but we do it in our air-conditioned and art-filled shop/event-space, using professional markers and paper. Attendees will follow a step-by-step lesson to learn and then practice the skills needed to develop their own personalized graffiti artwork.

The culmination of the experience is your creation of your own custom graffiti piece, transforming your name or chosen “tag” into bold, dynamic lettering. Throughout the session, your instructor provides individual guidance and creative tips, encouraging participants to experiment with their own artistic voice.
